Dubai World Cup Will Proceed, But Without Public Spectators

Only those with horse connections, racing officials, accredited media and sponsors will be allowed in…

The Dubai World Cup – the world’s richest horse race – will go ahead on Saturday, March 28, 2020, at Meydan Racecourse, but due to fears over the coronavirus pandemic, paid spectators won’t be permitted trackside.

Statements were released late on Thursday, March 12 regarding the change in proceedings.

A post sent out by Meydan Racing stated, “Due to the ongoing global health implications of the COVID-19/coronavirus and precautionary measures being implemented by the UAE government, Dubai Racing Club will host the Dubai World Cup meeting on March 28 without paid hospitality spectators at Meydan Racecourse.”

DUBAI WORLD CUP 2020 ANNOUNCEMENT Due to the ongoing global health implications of the COVID-19/coronavirus and precautionary measures being implemented by the UAE government, Dubai Racing Club will host the Dubai World Cup meeting on March 28 without paid hospitality spectators at Meydan Racecourse. All supporting Dubai World Cup events, including the Post-Position Draw (Wednesday, March 25), Breakfast with the Stars (Thursday, March 26) and Welcome Reception (Thursday, March 26), have been cancelled. Race day events, including entertainment, have also been cancelled. Only horse connections, racing officials, accredited media and sponsors will be permitted entry. All races will be contested and regulated in a standard fashion and results will be recorded officially. We appreciate your patience and understanding and are monitoring the situation on a daily basis. We continue to coordinate and adhere to the guidelines from the UAE government. إعلان كأس دبي العالمي 2020 التزاماً بإجراءات الصحة والسلامة العامّة في دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة والهادفة إلى الوقاية من فيروس كورونا المُستجد ( كوفيد–19 )، تقرَّر إقامة منافسات كأس دبي العالمي لسباق الخيل 2020  يوم السبت الموافق 28 مارس الجاري دون جماهير في المناطق العامّة أو في مناطق الضيافة مدفوعة القيمة. وقد وجب التنويه أنه تم إلغاء جميع الفعاليات المصاحِبة لهذا الحدث وتشمل: (مراسم السحب على قرعة كأس دبي العالمي " الأربعاء 25 مارس") و (الإفطار مع النجوم "الخميس 26 مارس") و (جائزة صاحب السمو الشيخ محمد بن راشد آل مكتوم للتميز في سباق الخيل "الخميس 26 مارس")، كما تم إلغاء كافّة الفعاليات الترفيهية يوم الحدث. سوف يقتصر حضور السباقات على أهل الخيل (المُلّاك والمدرّبين والفرسان والسيّاس)، وكذلك اللجنة المُنظِّمة وطاقَم العمل، ورُعاة الحدث، والإعلاميين المُصرّح لهم، وستُجرى السباقات وفقاً للمعايير المعتمدة، كما سيتم تسجيل النتائج بصفة رسميّة. ونحن إذ نتوجه لكم بخالص الشكر  لتفهّمكم ودعمكم لهذه الإجراءات التي لا تهدف سوى لتوفير أعلى مستويات الحماية لكم والحفاظ بصورة كاملة على صحّتكم، نتطلع لتعاونكم معنا بالالتزام بالإجراءات الوقائية المُطبّقة في الدولة.

The post went on to state that supporting events which lead up the main event on March 28 will also be cancelled. This includes the Post-Position Draw (Wednesday, March 25), Breakfast with the Stars (Thursday, March 26) and Welcome Reception (Thursday, March 26).
