When fashion and culture collide, something special happens. That’s exactly the case with Lightbound, the new SS25 sportswear collection from Adidas and Saudi fashion label Kaf by Kaf. Designed as a celebration of self-expression, identity, and creativity, the collection draws inspiration from the soft glow of the moon, symbolizing a journey of artistic and personal awakening.
Ahead of Riyadh Fashion Week 2024, Adidas hosted its first-ever regional runway show in Riyadh’s King Abdullah Financial District, setting the stage for this groundbreaking collection. The event brought together sportswear, culture, and high fashion, offering a fresh take on Saudi-inspired design.
Reimagining Tradition Through a Modern Lens
Rather than simply borrowing from Saudi heritage, Lightbound reinterprets it through a contemporary sportswear perspective. The collection features bold, statement-making pieces, including:
- A reworked track top and pants set with all-over prints, ribbed details, and functional cargo-style zippered pockets.
- An elongated cover-up abaya that merges striking prints with Adidas’ signature three-stripe branding.
- A lightweight headscarf crafted for breathability and ease of movement.
- A sporty maxi dress featuring a racerback silhouette, flat knit V-neck, and practical side seam pockets.
At the core of the collection is the theme “The Lines That Connect Us”, represented through diagonal white beams and interlocking motifs that symbolize unity and empowerment. The color palette takes cues from the soft, shifting hues of dusk and dawn, reflecting Kaf by Kaf founder Kawthar Alhoraish’s signature aesthetic.
A Campaign Rooted in Heritage and Modernity
To bring Lightbound to life, Adidas and Kaf by Kaf assembled a cast of regional tastemakers. The campaign features Kuwaiti-born Lebanese actress Laila Abdullah, Bahraini fashion blogger Abbas Alasfoor, and Dubai-based creatives Shahd Batal and Abdulrahman Abu Ebeid. Shot against textured stone walls and under moonlit alleyways, the visuals perfectly capture the collection’s balance between tradition and contemporary edge.
“Lightbound celebrates the bold spirit of Saudi youth and their boundless creativity,” says Alhoraish. “This collaboration with Adidas reimagines sportswear through a cultural lens, pushing the boundaries of design.”
